21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 11: Confession

Confession

written by Elliott Johnson

Have you ever done something wrong?

The answer is: Yes

We have all done harmful things to other people and have made bad choices. Amid our sins, a decision must be made: Will we confess sinful actions, or will we pretend that we have done nothing wrong? The Biblical writer John provides a wise insight about the need for confession.

“If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. “If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word is not in us.”

1 John 1:8-10 (NIV)

Until we have confessed our sins and our negative emotional states, we will not experience the power and freedom that is in Jesus Christ.

Guilty of sin? Confess. Afraid of the future? Confess. Angry at someone? Confess.

In 2023, pray that God provides wise, mature brothers and sisters whom you can confess your sins to, pray with and share fellowship as God forgives your sins and purifies you from all unrighteousness.

Reflection:

  1. What are sins that we need to confess to God?

  2. Who are some brothers or sisters that can hold me accountable in my walk?
