21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 14: Journaling

Journaling

written by Pastor Joel Arissó

“Remember the wonders he has done, his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced.”

Psalm 105:5

When I was younger, I used to write songs, poems, stories, etc. I really enjoyed writing. Throughout my faith journey, I’ve had seasons of another form of writing- journaling. Journal writing can mean many different things. One form of journaling is writing about the events of your day and reflecting on those experiences. Another form of journaling is, essentially, written prayer.

Personally, I tend to do the latter. In general, journaling can help you:

  1. Organize and clarify your thoughts.

  2. Identify patterns in your life experiences and in your thinking.

  3. Clearly communicate your prayer to God.

  4. Track your spiritual growth.

  5. Remember God’s work in your life.

Journaling can be used for healing, as you express your thoughts and feelings. It can also be used as an encouragement as you look back and are reminded of God’s work.

Today, take some time to write. Write about your day, your thoughts, or even write your prayers. Make sure to keep what you write. Then, you can go back to it another time and do what Psalm 105:5 says, “Remember the wonders he has done…”

Prayer for Today: Lord, today we pray that we would find the time to sit down and journal even if it’s only for a short time. We pray that during that time You would meet us in the secret place of our hearts and bring to remembrance the wonders that You have done. We pray that You would fill us to the point of overflow and that our pens would run out of ink and there would be no more space on the page to write. May that time be special and filled with the aroma of Your presence.
