21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 15: Choosing Humility

Choosing Humility

written by Minister Sergio Zurita

“For all those who exalt themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.“

Luke 14: 11 NIV

To better understand what humility is, perhaps we should look at the opposite of it, which is pride. Pride is believing that we are better and above others. Pride is thinking that we are self-sufficient to do anything.

Generally, humility tends to be misunderstood. We think we are talking about financial poverty, lowering our heads, or weakness of character. So what is humility? Humility is when we do not boast about our achievements, what we have or what we do. It is recognizing our weaknesses. God desires us to have true humility that demonstrates surrender and yielding; a willing and voluntary submission to the authority of God and to the authority of our leaders.

True humility is done with joy and respect, trusting in God's provision. Humility before the Father is recognizing that without Him we are nothing; we are no one.

During this time of fasting let us reflect on our attitudes towards our brothers and sisters and analyze: Are we being humble or proud? Let’s clothe ourselves with humility and submit our lives every day to the will of our Heavenly Father.

Prayer: Father, do not let pride take over our lives and confuse our thoughts and hearts. Remind us to always live in humility, serving those in need.
