21-Day-Fast Devotional - Day 16: Holiness

Holiness

written by Pastor Diana Nelson

“But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: “Be holy because I am holy.”

1 Peter 1:15-16

The Hebrew word for holy is “qodesh” and means “apartness, set-apartness, separateness, sacredness”. Peter was speaking here to believers that had been exiled throughout Galatia. He was reminding them of the hope they had in Jesus. That their time here though difficult would be just for a season and that during that time, they were called to be holy. Not just in the presence of God but in all that they did. Be holy in all you do.

Have you thought about that, being Holy in all that we do? When we talk, when we work, when we run errands. Are we being Holy? Are we set apart? Would people notice that there was a difference in us if they saw the way we interact with others? We tend to think of Holiness as something to be or do in the presence of God because He is Holy but here it is a lifestyle. Are we modeling Holiness in our lives to our children, our spouses, our co-workers, to the lost?

Reflect: Take a moment to think about being Holy (set apart) from the way that the world reacts and behaves to daily living to being holy in all that you do today.

Prayer: Lord, today I ask that you would show me how to be Holy in all that I do. Reveal to me any area that I tend to compromise or be like the world. I want to be a vessel set apart for your good works. May my life be a strong witness of who you are and of your unfailing love for others.
